About This Webinar
Just as we teach students to analyze texts by asking "What's the story being told? Whose perspective is centered?"—we must bring that same critical lens to media narratives about migration. And like every story worth studying, every person has a moving story.
Migration isn’t just a topic we teach—it's the lived reality of students in our schools whose identities and families are shaped by media narratives every single day. How do we help all learners, adults and students, critically examine these narratives while centering the dignity and belonging of immigrant-origin communities? This interactive session introduces educators to AllSides.com's Media Bias Chart as a continuous tool for media literacy and demonstrates how to utilize it in conjunction with Reimagining Migration's research-based framework.
Participants will examine real immigration headlines across the political spectrum, learn how media framing impacts student identity and belonging, and practice thinking routines that build empathy and critical consciousness. You'll leave this session with ready-to-use lessons and year-round strategies that will empower you to transform how your learning community sees migration: not as a political abstraction, but as a shared human experience and a story of real people—inspiring a sustained commitment to equity in your classroom.
