About This Webinar
Childhood bereavement can have profound impacts on students’ academic performance, behavior, social relationships, development and well-being and yet is often not addressed in schools. This session aims to equip educators to identify and address these impacts through practical strategies to support students’ healing and improve learning outcomes.
Participants will learn and apply four culturally-informed strategies that can be adapted for a range of school settings from preschool through high school. Further, participants will identify circumstances that complicate bereavement, considerations for students in special education, and signs that additional support may be needed.
Teachers, administrators, school health and mental health professionals and classified staff will be able to apply strategies in their work with students.

This was a really meaningful and practical session on a topic educators don’t always feel prepared to handle. It struck a great balance between research and real classroom application, with strategies that feel doable right away.
I appreciated the focus on how grief shows up in students’ behavior, learning and relationships--not just emotionally. The culturally responsive approach also made the guidance feel thoughtful and relevant for diverse school communities.
Karen brought both expertise and compassion, and the session left me feeling more confident in how to support students during difficult moments. Definitely worth watching.
