About This Lesson
This activity introduces students to Bryan Stevenson, a famous lawyer and racial justice advocate. Students will read about Bryan's life including his childhood experiences of racial injustice, his efforts defending death-row inmates, and his advocacy in front of the United States Supreme Court.
After reading, students will answer open response questions to reflect on Bryan Stevenson's impact on the criminal justice system and consider what other changes are necessary to create a more just society in the United States. Several additional sources are linked on page 4 as well to provide students with additional opportunities to learn about racial justice and the criminal justice system.
