For the past two decades, I have taught in urban education, specifically teaching underserved students. In 2017 I began to develop Everyone Writes when I discovered that my fourth graders were not able to write essays and I could not find any product that helped them. After four years of testing and refinement, I created a program that made it possible for every single student in my classes, from the most struggling to the most proficient, to begin writing essays. Those students wrote over forty complete essays every year. Remedial students became more confident independent writers. Proficient students learned to write with individuality and depth. Newcomers and English Language Learners understood the writing process and system. All of the students learned to enjoy writing and looked forward to doing it. I believe that all students can learn to express themselves through writing.
