About This Lesson

Students read an excerpt from the tween novel Lola Zola and the Lemonade Crush (www.lolazola.com) by Marcy Winograd and Jackie Hirtz. In the excerpt, Lola's parents
try to shield their daughter from the fact that they've just lost their jobs. Students analyze
dialogue, action and exposition to draw inferences from the text. The lesson provides a
graphic organizer for reading, as well as a writing assignment that helps students use the graphic organizer to build a polished paragraph.
