About This Lesson

11th grade writing standard: Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasons and relevant sufficient evidence.

While reading The Great Gatsby and discussing issues of social class, students engage in a four corners exercise, using the hand-outs from www.thepovertychallenge.org. After the exercise and a review of the hand-outs, students write about the challenges of navigating different social classes.

Excellent. I really like the questions about navigating class. It is very "Ruby Payne."
